I have the honour to forward for
your consideration the enclosed copy of a letter of the
Honourable Director of Public Works regarding the appoint-
ment of a surveyor in the Public: Works' Department.
3. Mr B. W. ́Grey is a useful and
efficient offiser: and, as there is no officer available,
who is better fitted for road-tracing and such work in the
New Territory,' I recommend that he should be added perma-
nently, to the staff of the Public Works Department at a
salary of $2400. per annum,
The appointment which Mr Grey holds,
though designated for many years past in the Estimates as
that of temporary surveyor. " has been a permanent one: and
I therefore submit that it is advisable to appoint the
officer holding it to the permanent- staff of the Public
Works Department.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient
humble servant,
